Sources of Light
Many may wonder where the light for the moon comes from. It is only being reflected by the light from a star. Stars can provide their own light because of the immense amount of heat and gas that it is consisted of. Planets and moons do not actually shine; instead they are only reflections of the bright light of the stars.
The moon is different every night, but it actually depends on how much of the sunlit side of the moon faces the earth. The phases of the moon are shown as it makes a full circle around the earth.
Solar Eclipse and Lunar Eclipse all depend on the positioning of the Earth, Moon and the Sun.
Solar Eclipses occur when the moon is passing directly between the Earth and the Sun, blocking sunlight from the Earth. There are two types of solar eclipses: 1) total solar eclipses, which is when the umbra-or darkest part of the moons shadow- completely blocks sunlight from coming to Earth or 2) partial solar eclipses, when part of the sun is visible, also known as the penumbra, or largest part of the shadow.
Lunar Eclipses occur when Earth blocks sunlight from reaching the moon. They only occur when there is a full moon. Just like solar eclipse, there are two types of lunar eclipses. A total lunar eclipse is the same as the total solar eclipse except it affects the moon, and the same with the partial lunar eclipse.
