Units of Measurement
What is an astronomical unit? It is the unit of measurement that is measured by the average distance that the sun rotates around the sun. One AU is 149, 597, 871 km or 92,955,807.3 miles. We use the term AU when we are describing great distances and will not confuse astronomers in complex equations. Another way of measuring distance in space is to use light years. It is the distance light travels in one year, and is used to measure distances between the stars.
Units of Measurement 1) Astronomical Units: Sun and Jupiter is 5.2 AU 2) Light Years: Sun to Center of Milky Way Galaxy |
